The only problem that occurs when it comes to co-signing is to find a person who will agree to be responsible for you and your financial situation. When you examine the whole process of co-signing better you will find a lot of facts that make you think several times before asking someone to co-sign you for his account.

Co-signing is regarded as the responsibility for another person's loan. It doesn't sound attractive in fact. It is said that co-signing won't do any harm but unfortunately it can really cause some serious problems.

If you are lucky to have good credit history you may be asked to be a co-signer. And just on the contrary you may have a desire to establish your credit history. In this case you will ask someone to be your co-signer. It doesn't matter what the situation is, co-singing van really damage your credit report. Here is the way it may happen.

Let's imagine that your credit history is good and you want to help your child build his credit rating. No one denies that it is a good chance for your kid but it can result in such problems that you have not expected.

First of all you have to guarantee the debt before co-signing. What does it mean? If the borrower won't be able to pay off his debt you will have to do it including all fees. Are you ready to take this responsibility? That's not the only thing you should take into consideration.

You should be sure that a person who wants you to co-sign is a reliable person. Think of the fact that it can really be a burden to your credit score. If there are some doubts don't volunteer.

Another point you should pay attention to is terms and conditions of the contract. If there is some misunderstanding you'd better discuss the points with the lender. You can also get the needed information by asking questions on credit cards.

Don't forget to ask the lender to inform you in case of missed payments. You will have some more time to clear up the situation.

In general co-signing is not as safe as it is. For some people it is rather hard to be responsible for their own debts to say nothing about someone else's ones. You can't be sure that you will be able to pay them off.
