Razz is another poker game that is included in the major poker tournaments. It is an interesting version of Seven Card Stud. In this game the players play for low poker hand. Ace is only counted as low card. Suits are irrelevant as straights and flushes are considered high hands. The house rules determine the amount of ante and betting. The ante is usually about ten percent of a small bet.
After the ante each player receives two cards face-down and one card face-up. The player with the “bring in” card begins the betting with a small or half small bet. The “bring in” card is the lowest face-up card and any tie is broken by suit with the ordering of spades, hearts, diamonds and clubs. Spades are considered high and clubs are low. This is the Third Street round. The next round is the Fourth Street round where the dealer deals each active player a face-up card. After a round of bets based on small bets begun by the player with the lowest hand showing, the Fifth Street card is dealt face-up. Again, each player checks or bets, now in terms of big bets. The Sixth Street round is conducted in the same way. When the betting is concluded, the deal deals the final card face-down. When the betting ends, each player reveals his hand in order of turn. The lowest five card poker hand in the game is the winner. If there is a tie, the pot is split.
